Before You Begin
Three things to think about.
The best letter is the one that feels like you.
01
Who are you writing to?
A quick thank-you, a birthday wish, or a long-overdue hello? Let the occasion set the tone for your paper and words.
02
What do you love to write with?
A favorite fountain pen? Choose smooth, ink-friendly paper. For a gel or ballpoint pen, most letter papers work beautifully.
03
How will you send it?
Pair your paper with an envelope that fits. Keep delicate decorations inside, and check postage before sending.
01 · Perfectly Paired
Coordinated paper and envelopes take the guesswork out of your first letter. From playful illustrations to quiet, simple designs, a letter set brings everything together beautifully.
A little note
Check the number of sheets and envelopes in a set. A few extra sheets give you room for a longer story.
02 · The First Page
Choose a writing pad for everyday correspondence, a delicate patterned sheet for something special, or a simple blank page that leaves room for your own expression. Texture, size, and ruling all shape the way you write.
A little note
Translucent paper adds a delicate touch. Test your pen on a spare sheet and let the ink dry before folding.
03 · Ready for the post
An envelope is the first thing your recipient sees. Keep it classic with kraft paper, pair it with your favorite letter paper, or tuck in a card and a small extra. Choose a size that comfortably holds your note.
A little note
Measure your folded paper before choosing an envelope. Leave a little room so your letter slides in without bending.
04 · say something special
A birthday, a thank-you, or just because. A card turns a few thoughtful words into a keepsake. Find illustrated designs and little cards for notes that don’t need a whole page to say a lot.
A little note
Check the dimensions and whether an envelope is included. Mini cards are lovely tucked into a gift or a longer letter.
05 · make it a little more you
A tiny animal, a cheerful flower, a carefully chosen seal. Stickers add personality to your page and a little surprise to your envelope. Mix and match, or keep it simple with one finishing detail.
A little note
Keep the mailing address clear and readable. For posted letters, save raised or delicate embellishments for the inside.
06 · pen & ink
The right pen makes you want to keep writing. Explore fountain pens for an expressive line, and bottled inks for colors that make your words feel like your own. Start with what feels comfortable in your hand.
A little note
Use fountain-pen ink in fountain pens, not drawing or calligraphy ink. Pair your pen with suitable paper and give your words time to dry.
