Ink Institute is a line of inks made by the Taiwanese stationery store, Juspirit in Taipei. They produce inks that are easy to clean and beautiful on paper. We love their ink collections which include a tribute to the Taipei Metro subway line, Exotic Plants and the super fun Cat Daily collection.
This ink falls in my “heavy sheener” catagory. You wont see much of the ink color unless you add a little water to dilute it, at least I didnt. The ink dries quickly to reveal a strong red sheen on Midori MD paper. It sheens on most papers to some extent. The blue is super dark so with a fine or extra fine nib it might as well be black. Flow is good, average to dry but in my C5!I never got a hard start even after a week capped. The ink leaves a residue so extra cleaning is necessary with demonstrators. Dry times are good, it doesnt smear or smudge on Midori MD paper after drying.
I like this ink but there are many dark blue inks with heavy red sheen on the market so it isnt that unique of an ink.
I find shadowsnow to be close to a few other inks but it seems to have a sheen that varies with the wetness of the nib/feed and the writing speed. That character sets it apart from the others.
Oh so glad to find you still had it in stock! I’ve discovered some of my paper that was just ok for writing on is a bit too cheap and very absorbent for this ink. It needs to stay on the surface to really shine. It is stunning when it does.
I bought this on a whim last year - it's become one of my most favourite inks! It looks GREAT on so many papers. I've stocked up on two extra bottles (eek!) ... I tried the Siogang (reddish / pink) one and it's terrible. In person swatching is so much safer than online shopping - but Yoseka is far from LA! :) -
Definitely has a sheen. More dark blue in color, purple sheen, can see slight pink on outer edges.
