About TWSBI:
TWSBI 三文堂 (San Wen Tong) is one of our earliest collection even before the store. TWSBI started as an OEM manufacturer for different western brands, and around 2009, they decided to start their own brand. With 50 years of experience in pen making, they took to fountain pen forums and gather users’ feedback. It was said that Pelican M800 was the model they were inspired. Most of their pens are transparent, so it’s really fun to see the ink color and it lasts for a very long time.
The name 三文堂 (San Wen Tong) comes from the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures, created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the name “San Wen Tong” was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments" in Chinese. Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI.
The TWSBI Vac700R IRIS feels quite hefty and solid in the hand, which I wasn't expecting given that it's a "plastic" pen.
Ordering the Iris adds yet another layer of anticipation, since the actual colour you get differs from pen to pen. I was extremely lucky and got a pen with more greens, which goes well with my green Vac20A (filling bottle), and my everyday dark green ink. My matte Vac700R clip is almost entirely green, which looks cool in person.
The writing experience felt great. I got mine in EF, and was glad it didn't feel scratchy at all. There was a tiny bit of feedback (which is to be expected for an EF nib), but it was a pleasant writing experience.
The shutoff valve is a must-have for me, since I travel regularly. Ordering from Yoseka, the item arrived on Wednesday (ordered it the previous Friday afternoon). So it's pretty quick, and everything was well packed.
