About TWSBI:
TWSBI 三文堂 (San Wen Tong) is one of our earliest collection even before the store. TWSBI started as an OEM manufacturer for different western brands, and around 2009, they decided to start their own brand. With 50 years of experience in pen making, they took to fountain pen forums and gather users’ feedback. It was said that Pelican M800 was the model they were inspired. Most of their pens are transparent, so it’s really fun to see the ink color and it lasts for a very long time.
The name 三文堂 (San Wen Tong) comes from the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures, created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the name “San Wen Tong” was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments" in Chinese. Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI.
This pen is one of TWISBI's special edition Ecos and its gorgeous. I realize that buying an Eco with snazzy trim that increases the price kinda defeats the purpose of buying a less expensive "Eco" (which is TWISBI's shorthand for "Economical") but given how nice it looks, I'm prepared to live with the irony. 🙂 The rich indigo blue cap & piston knob color matches very well with the bronze trim and nib. I went with the Fine nib because I already had 3 other special edition Ecos with Medium and 1.1mm Stub nibs and wanted something less bold, I guess. To my delight it writes like a Western Fine. I say that because the last time I bought a TWSBI in a Fine nib it was a Diamond 580 (from a different retailer) it wrote like Japanese Fine nib which of course writes more like a super ultra-fine. That was my own fault; I didn't know much about fountain pens yet at the time. I will mention that when I got this one the plastic or rubber piston head had not been greased, so I had to take it apart and do that myself but that was really no trouble. And one last thing: the folks at Yoseka Stationery were very kind and polite and packaged my order very securely.
I love blue and was looking for a beautiful pen to show off my Nagasawa Kobe Ink No.7 Strait Blue 海峽藍 ink. This pen is perfect for that. The bronze details complement the bronze sheen of the ink. I don't know why blue isn't more popular, it is the color of trust and truth and that is a great thing in writing.
