The Sailor Fude De Mannen Fountain Pen makes it easy to create calligraphy-style writing with the convenience of a fountain pen. Its special bent nib lets you adjust line thickness by changing the writing angle—hold it upright for fine lines or tilt it for bold strokes. The ergonomic grip provides comfort and control, making it easier to use than a traditional brush pen.
This pen comes in different colors to match your writing style. The Green (-55 degrees) version is best for those who write upright, while the Dark Blue, Pearl White, Pearl Pink, and Pearl Brown (-40 degrees) versions work well for those who write at a lower angle. Whether for calligraphy, art, or everyday writing, the Sailor Fude De Mannen Fountain Pen offers a smooth and expressive experience.

Sailor was founded in 1911. The founder Kyugoro Sakata was given a fountain pen by a friend returning from the UK after studying at the Royal Navy. He was inspired and determined to start making fountain pens in Japan. Sailor became the first fountain pen company in Japan, and earned many more firsts in Japan -- first ballpoint pen in 1948, first ink cartridge in 1954 and first brush pen in 1972, etc.
In the 1970's, Sailor made a popular beginner fountain pen, "Candy," that sold more than 15 million within a few years. However, the number of the fountain pen users were declining as ballpoint pens became more mainstream.
In 1981, Sailor decided to go in the opposite direction from their "Candy" pen and began focusing on producing a higher standard series, which is the 1911 series we see today. Their focus on making a higher standard provides a great foundation for their later series of pens. Today, Sailor makes one of the most diverse lines of nibs, some of which are designed for specific writing purposes such as writing musical notes to one that is best for character writing.
I've tried other fountain pens which never impressed me (I'm a felt-tip and fineliner gal to my bones), but I picked this on a drunken whim and gotta say, I'm impressed. I find myself reaching for it to journal when I would previously grab my Sakura Pigma. I think I'll get a converter and make this an everyday pen. I love the bent tip - it makes my print and cursive look very different and writing much more versatile depending on what position I'm writing in.
This pen is cute, affordable, and fun to use. But you REALLY have to pay attention to the angle you hold the pen. The green pen is for people who hold the pen straight of the paper. The other colors are for people who hold pens at an angle. It does matter when using. Also I would not recommend this pen for people new to using fountains pens. I let a friend try these with the intention of gifting the pen appropriate to her writing angle. And my goodness, I literally had to take the pen back because she start writing so thickly I thought the pen had broken. I switched her to a basic medium nib pen and that’s a much better fit! But happy to keep these pens in my personal collection, they give a dynamic letter that’s very nice to look at.

The fude de manen pens are a must-have for my art kits. They're so easy to use and fun to sketch with.
This is an all-around great pen.
The body of the pen is lovely. Most of the pen is a cherry-blossom pink, but the very back is a slightly sparkling, paler pink shade. This pen is light, and comfortable to write with.
The fude nib takes a little bit of practice, but it's easy to write with once you get the hang of it. This is a very practical and versatile pen, and great for showing off ink shading. The nib is smooth and pleasant to write with.
