About Sailor:
Sailor was founded in 1911. The founder Kyugoro Sakata was given a fountain pen by a friend returning from the UK after studying at the Royal Navy. He was inspired and determined to start making fountain pens in Japan. Sailor became the first fountain pen company in Japan, and earned many more firsts in Japan -- first ballpoint pen in 1948, first ink cartridge in 1954 and first brush pen in 1972, etc.
In the 1970's, Sailor made a popular beginner fountain pen, "Candy," that sold more than 15 million within a few years. However, the number of the fountain pen users were declining as ballpoint pens became more mainstream.
In 1981, Sailor decided to go in the opposite direction from their "Candy" pen and began focusing on producing a higher standard series, which is the 1911 series we see today. Their focus on making a higher standard provides a great foundation for their later series of pens. Today, Sailor makes one of the most diverse lines of nibs, some of which are designed for specific writing purposes such as writing musical notes to one that is best for character writing.
A good ink to mix into this to darken it up a bit would be robert oster motor oil!
I then put it into one of my Montblanc 149s and drew Wendy corduroy from gravity falls with it while listening to the silent hill theme song, you know the one that plays the ukulele at the beginning of the song.
Just got a mocha ice storm at the ebar at Nordstrom while listening to the song and drew hot gothic chix and the resulting ink color gave it a kewl 1990s fall Halloween/silent hill type of vibe.
Pilot has awesome affordable gold nib pens but lousy selection of ink colors, sailor has awesome ink colors to choose from but their pens ink capacity needs to be improved and even though their nibs are 21k gold pilots 14k are smoother? I don't even know how that's possible?
All 5 of the 2nd edition inks are perfect for my fashion lingerie model drawings so I stocked up on 2 of each.
I already cleaned out my pens for ready filling, Montblanc 146 = date, Aurora 88 rose gold = guma, namiki dragon cumulus = zare, st dupont = suki, custom 912 or 743 falcon nib with ebonite feed = hana.
Finally a sheening ink that won't clog up the feed like organics studio or kwz sheen machine.
Loving the color changing and the writing in Twsbi Eco-T is so smooth!
