Sailor was founded in 1911. The founder Kyugoro Sakata was given a fountain pen by a friend returning from the UK after studying at the Royal Navy. He was inspired and determined to start making fountain pens in Japan. Sailor became the first fountain pen company in Japan, and earned many more firsts in Japan -- first ballpoint pen in 1948, first ink cartridge in 1954 and first brush pen in 1972, etc.
In the 1970's, Sailor made a popular beginner fountain pen, "Candy," that sold more than 15 million within a few years. However, the number of the fountain pen users were declining as ballpoint pens became more mainstream.
In 1981, Sailor decided to go in the opposite direction from their "Candy" pen and began focusing on producing a higher standard series, which is the 1911 series we see today. Their focus on making a higher standard provides a great foundation for their later series of pens. Today, Sailor makes one of the most diverse lines of nibs, some of which are designed for specific writing purposes such as writing musical notes to one that is best for character writing.

This Sailor Pro Gear Slim Shikiori - Fairy Tale Series Dragon Palace fountain pen has a beautiful spot on color green.
This fountain pen is just grand, I recommend it and I recommend this seller.
I wish Sailor would expand the nib selections for their special editions, but I had to have this beautiful pen even with no choice in nibs. Since it's 14K, the medium-fine nib is still a joy to write with (I've been more into stubs lately). I thought the gold flecks might be too glittery for me but they are classy and not gaudy at all. I have this filled with Sailor Ink Studio #162 which is a nice match for the pen color - if you're into that sort of thing!
Love this Sailor Dragon Palace pen. I purchased it Sept. 2020 to use as a tool for Art, but I love just writing with it so much that I use it daily with my 2021 Hobonochi planner. I feel happy when I’m writing with it. Grateful to have a beautiful pleasure like this, enjoying the pen I’m writing with instead of just writing with a pen I ignore! Smooth writer with even ink flow. I’ve been using Sailor Sei-boku ink in it. The pen’s jade/seagreen color is beautiful. The MF nib is surprisingly fine, which is great because I usually go for Extra Fine nibs and initially had been disappointed this pen doesn’t come in EF — but turns out I’m happy writing with MF.
Love how Yoseka packages items, wrapping each item and using their stationary/stamps/tapes/pens/inks, it makes the receiving experience special, (and inspires me to look at other items in the shop I hadn’t known/thought about …)
Another gorgeous pen by Sailor! I personally wanted this pen because I had seen Daisy talk about this pen before in one of Yoseka’s many YouTube videos. It’s also just an absolutely beautiful pen. It tends to remind me of dragon tales and I’m not 100 percent sure why lol. Overall an amazing pen, however nothing in the world in my opinion beats the Yoseka X Sailor PGS… sorry not sorry lol 😂❤️🧿
This pen has been on my wishlist for almost a year, and I finally decided to splurge on it this past month. It is even more beautiful in person, reminiscent of jade, and writes very smoothly. I can't stop staring at it. The packaging and personal touch that Yoseka puts into their shipping are also so nice!
