Sailor Bespoke fountain pens are released in extremely limited production quantities, with often less than 100 pieces available globally. In North America, these fountain pens are limited to 5 retailers. The fountain pens that are deemed to be Sailor Bespoke are limited for a number of reasons but most often their limited quantities are due to their lengthy production process, the expensive materials used on the pens such as ebonite, maki-e and urushi and wood, and/or the inclusion of one of Sailor's special hand-ground Naginata-Togi or Cross nibs.
Sailor Bespoke fountain pens are released at different times throughout the year, with about 10 new releases each year. Since they are handmade in small batches by Japanese artisans, once the initial production quantities of a pen sell out, the same pen will not be released again.
