Today we are very happy to feature the Sailor Naginata Togi nib. Naginata or 長刀 is named after the shape of the tipping that draws similarity between the nib tip and a traditional Japanese long sword. The tipping of the nib is much larger than a regular pen, and it is specially ground to allow a wide variation of line width. It emulates the characters produced with expressive brush like strokes. Just like using a brush, writing with the Naginata Togi nib takes a little practice, but the large tipping imparts a very strong stroke start, while it also allows the finish to be very sharp and precise. In the 90’s, the nib was officially launched on Sailor’s 80th anniversary under then nib master Nobuyoshi Nagahara, who joined Sailor at the age of 14, and stayed with Sailor for 65 years. Under Nobuyoshi Nagahara, through trial and error, and with his decades of nib-grinding experience, Sailor released a series of Naginata nibs and we are honored to feature the Togi nib at our shop. Today, Sailor’s Naginata nibs have a far-reaching influence beyond Japan, and in countries like Taiwan and Hong Kong, Naginata nibs are known to be the best to write characters with 🖊
