Recently, it feels like everyone has a (large and constantly growing) stamp collection, and it can feel like a bit of an intimidating thing to get into. Today we’re going to dive into 3 uses for stamps, and also see what ink pads would be best for each usage.
1. They're functional!

The idea with these is you’re using them daily or weekly for things like to-do lists and habit tracking, and you don't have to re-draw them every time. One example is the BGM clear stamps shown here – clear stamps often come on a sheet and are nice because they’re super easy to store and have a lot of variety. All you need to use them is a clear block and an ink pad!
For these, people tend to use dark oil-based ink pads that show up easily on their journal paper, and because they are oil based there are no issues with smudging when you write over them!
2. Ink Swatching

A second type of stamp that is super popular in the stationery community is ink swatching stamps. We’re using a traditional block stamp that was a collaboration with one of our team members, Authan, and you just need an ink pad for this one! We’d again recommend a dark, oil based ink for this since we’re putting ink over it, and we don’t want any smudging or color mixing.
People will use these in specific ink-tracking notebooks or just in their normal journals to keep track of their ink collection, currently inked pens, or anything else ink related! To fill in the sample we're using a Pentel Vistage waterbrush, but you can use a normal brush or just a q-tip!
3. Decorative

Finally, a lot of people in the stationery community just use stamps for decorative reasons! There are so many creative stamps out there, it's fun to experiment with different colors of lighter ink to create gradients or layered effects in your journal, on cards, collages, or anything your heart desires!
Pre-inked stamps like the Coro-re, Pochitto, and Sun-Star 3-in-1 Animal stamps have become popular recently, they’re super beginner friendly since all you need is the one product!
