Platinum released their new retractable fountain pen in March 2020. While the pleasure and ease of writing with a smooth fountain pen cannot be denied, a common complaint for some who prefer being able to quickly grab a pen in order to jot down a quick note is that they would rather not deal with the cumbersome process of having to unscrew the cap of a fountain pen, figure out where to place the cap (to post or not to post) just to record a quick thought. Curidas, which was named with the word "curiosity" in mind, was designed for the curious-minded who are looking to explore many ideas quickly and need a fountain pen to keep up with them!
In order to prevent drying out, Curidas has a nib compartment made of a soft rubbery material that gently hugs the nib when you retract it into the nib compartment. This keeps the ink in the nib from drying out even between longer periods of use. A detachable clip is near the grip section of the pen can be adjusted and removed if its placement bothers you while writing. All of these details unique to the Curidas make it an awesome Everyday Carry fountain pen for anyone who values convenience and efficiency.

One of the minor inconveniences one will notice when they venture down the path of being a fountain pen user (addict) is that there is a lack of "click" pens. This is of course due to the finicky nature of fountain pens, the design, the laws of gravity and the eventual blight upon one's shirt. Clickable pens do, of course exist, but in limited scope and availbility. The Curidas is a new addition to the area of clickable fountain pens and it is not short of design and intrigue. The mechanism, which is visible to the eye thanks to the translucent housings, is a feat of engineering. The body is solid, sturdy and comfortable in-hand without being cumbersome or awkward. The 'click' is substantial and you will know the nib has been exposed or retracted by the state of the push-button itself which depresses when you are writing. The design includes an anti-roll feature which also doubles as part of the mechanism itself.
I have been using the Curidas for 4 months at this point and it has become my daily driver in that respect. Filling may seem daunting but once you read the instructions you will become familiar with not only the disassembly technique but that by which you can also clean every inch of the pen.
The Curidas truly has inspired me to write even more and be mindful of just how ingenius humans can be having taken something old and made it modern, new and still an homage to its roots.
