Pilot Silvern is a beautiful fountain pen in Pilot's Sterling Silver collection. The pen's barrel and cap are made of genuine sterling silver, giving it a nice weightiness in the hand. Koushi is the name of the grid pattern that is etched into barrel and cap; the traditional Koushi grid pattern was commonly used in the Edo period in Japan on room dividers and the different thicknesses of the lines stood for different meanings. Thin lines such as the ones on the Koushi grid of the Silvern indicate elegance and indeed, the Pilot Silvern is a very elegant and classic looking fountain pen.

The Pilot Silvern with a fine nib is the perfect journaling tool for me. It’s the right size and it has the most beautiful inlaid nib. I use it with Pilot cartridges that I fill with different inks because I don’t like the Con-40 converter. This is my second Silvern because I traded my first one for a Montegrappa Admirale and I realized it was a mistake not to have a Pilot Silvern in my collection. Buying from Yoseka saved me the $120 tariff that Pen Pen Avenue in Japan needs to charge now. This second pen feels lighter than my first Silvern in the same exact model. However it writes just as smoothly as the medium nib I had in my previous Silvern. I highly recommend the Pilot Silvern if you’re looking to treat yourself to something special. Shipping from Yoseka in Brooklyn to Seattle took about 10 days but it was worth the wait.
