Pilot Namiki Emperor Chinkin Fountain Pen - Dragon.

Dragons are significant figures in Japanese folklore and symbolize wisdom, strength, good fortune, and spiritual growth. Namiki Emperor Chinkin Dragon, created by Yasuji Sumi of the Kokkokai maki-e artisan group, features a traditional Japanese dragon with a wingless, serpentine body, three claws, and a fierce, craggy face. Under the clip, a round orb appears in one of the dragon’s claws—in mythology, this dragon jewel has magical properties and brings good fortune. The impressive depth of the background and dynamism of the dragon's curved body is achieved through multiple Chinkin layers and an intricate combination of fine dots and lines.

Namiki Emperor Chinkin Dragon matches the size of the fountain pens in Namiki's highest-ranking collection, the Emperor Collection; it similarly comes with a jumbo size No.50 18k gold nib. This pen is filled via eyedropper with a shut-off valve and features a high ink capacity.

The Chinkin Collection is made up of fountain pens which use “Chinkin (Gold Inlay)”, one of lacquer ware techniques that Japan boasts to the world on a par with Maki-e. Motifs are carved into the lacquered surface with special chisels, and after inlaying lacquer in the grooves, placing gold leaves and gold powder gives the pattern expression. The delicate and fine depiction and three-dimensional aspect overflowing with a strong power of expression are the special characteristics of this collection. Since Chinkin is a carving technique, there is no room for mistakes. Every single carve is a true challenge in the sense of the word.
