About OHTO:
OHTO is a Japanese pen manufacturing company, first established in 1929 as a manufacturer of dyes and ink. In 1949, the company manufactured the world's first chrome ball ballpoint pen, and has been manufacturing pens ever since. They produced Japan's first ballpoint pen, as well as many other innovative items such as Japan's first water-based ballpoint pen (also known as a rollerball), first needle point, and new ceramic tip pen.
The pen's dark emerald color and Yoseka's wonderful logo are what first caught my eye. Knowing it was from a Japanese pen company established back in 1929 made it even more appealing to me. I was so excited when it arrived but when I held it in my hand, it felt a bit too slim for me and the grip wasn't comfortable. And then when I started writing with it I was disappointed to see how light the ink was.
I did like the shape and design of the knock/click mechanism, but I was really hoping this would be a pen I would want to carry around and write with all the time, especially for the price. Maybe if I can find a gel ink cartridge that fits I might pick it up more often?
I could tell just by looking at it when it came in that the quality was top tier, the color is beautiful and the weight of the pen is nicely balanced, it writes smooth and clips nicely to a notebook or stack of paper. I could tell that a lot of love and care was put into the design of this pen.
I've never tried an OHTO pen before but the classic Yoseka green drew my eye and as soon as I clicked the pen out I had to have it. The mechanism used has such a nice feel to it like it snaps into place and scratches an itch in my brain I can't possibly hope to describe. The faceted body makes it reminiscent of a standard pencil with a clip making it nice and portable.
The ink itself is surprisingly smooth, best comparison I can make is to my Zebra clip-on multi pen, but which a much finer tip. Although, after testing it, I found I preferred their gel ink formula - but the refills are the same shape so it was a super quick and easy swap!
These pens are a great value in an all metal clicker pen. I don’t like the standard refill, but it can be replaced by any Parker style refill. Yoseka provided fine service.
I've been wanting to try out OHTO pens and seeing this collab in this gorgeous deep green made me try it. The pen writes light, but smooth thin lines. The click (knock) is satisfying, too. Overall, I am satisfied. I've been using it everyday, but it's best for taking notes. No smear either!
