Nagasawa Original Fountain Pen - 143rd Anniversary Urushi Naginata Kitanozaka - Limited Edition
To commemorate its 143rd anniversary, Nagasawa has introduced a special limited edition fountain pen: the Urushi Naginata Kitanozaka. This exquisite pen features a meticulously lacquered urushi body, offering a rich, tactile experience unique to traditional Japanese lacquerware. Urushi lacquer is made from the sap of the Urushi Tree which takes 15 years to mature and can only be found in Eastern Asia. Due to its natural origins and lengthy maturation times, Urushi is a very limited and highly coveted lacquer material. It must be applied layer by layer to allow proper curing and setting time for each layer, which can take up to two months. Once finished, Urushi will be waterproof and resistant to most environmental conditions, making Urushi fountain pens shiny, durable, and able to stand the test of time.
The Kitanozaka's deep, transparent blue finish pays homage to Nagasawa’s original "#38 Kitanosaka Night Blue" ink—an elegant shade reminiscent of the serene night sky over Kitanozaka. Equipped with a specialty Naginata Togi nib, the pen is specifically designed to enhance the beauty of Japanese Kanji writing, rich in tome, hane, and harai strokes. The unique curvature of the nib allows for expressive line variation, producing bold strokes when angled low and delicate thin lines when held upright. As a mark of authenticity and heritage, the nib is engraved with a weathervane—an emblem found exclusively on Nagasawa’s original fountain pens.
