In 2017, Five Metal Shop reimagined the classic and traditional Taiwanese daily wall calendar seen across many households in Taiwan. The traditional style, with thin paper, staple binding on top and primarily bright red and blue characters that displayed not only the numerical date and day of the week, but often also forecasted holidays, lunar phases, lunar holidays, and even basic fortune telling indicating auspicious dates. Across Taiwan, these wall calendars are found in traditional households and as the days go by, each page is torn off, the paper often being upcycled and reused around the house.
Five Metal states that their goal with this calendar project is to reinvigorate a Taiwanese classic object with "quiet cultural significance" by producing it with a modern take, adding splashes of bright colors and abstract geometric shapes and designs throughout the year's pages.
In it, you will find a yearly overview page with all 12 months of 2022 and as each month transitions, monthly overview pages in between the daily pages. Taiwanese holidays are marked on the calendar and weekends and other off days are indicated with blurred numbers.
