About TWSBI:
TWSBI 三文堂 (San Wen Tong) is one of our earliest collection even before the store. TWSBI started as an OEM manufacturer for different western brands, and around 2009, they decided to start their own brand. With 50 years of experience in pen making, they took to fountain pen forums and gather users’ feedback. It was said that Pelican M800 was the model they were inspired. Most of their pens are transparent, so it’s really fun to see the ink color and it lasts for a very long time.
The name 三文堂 (San Wen Tong) comes from the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures, created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the name “San Wen Tong” was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments" in Chinese. Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI.
Wow! This pen is so beautiful to look at and write with. I filled it with Pilot’s Iroshizuku Tsutsuji ink. This is the perfect pairing. The bright pink/fuschia ink contrasts nicely with the transparent blue pen. The nib writes very smoothly and makes writing so enjoyable.
A few things to note: Filling the pen from small ink sample vials/bottles can be messy and a little tricky. But there are work-arounds to make filling a little easier. The pen is a little heavier than I’m used to, especially when posted (my previous pens have been the lighter weight Platinum Preppy and Pilot Kakuno). But the Eco is still comfortable to hold and the heavier weight is not a deal breaker. I’ve heard that certain inks can permanently stain the pen barrel. I’ve had the pen for only 2 days so I don’t have any experience with this. For now, I’ll avoid using waterproof/permanent inks and other inks that are known to cause staining.
The Eco seems to be well made and reasonably priced. So far, I’m very happy with this pen.
