The Blackwing Volume 64 is a limited edition Blackwing release that commemorates the medium of the comic book, invented in 1837 by Swiss teacher Rodolphe Töpffer. In the 200 years since, comic books have evolved from a niche medium to a comprehensive storytelling device. Comic book writers, pencilers, inkers, letterers, and colorists have birthed iconic characters, explored profound topics, and deftly blurred the lines between pop-culture and art.
This edition of the classic Blackwing pencil features the halftone design, a nod to the 64-color palette utilized in some of the earliest comics. Its firm graphite is perfect for sketching a new character concept or writing a list of their super powers. Originally, Blackwing pencils were loved and popular among the creative community throughout the 20th century, but after being discontinued in the 1990s, Blackwings became rare and difficult to find. When they were brought back in 2010, the pencils were once again adapted by many musicians, writers and artists. 2020 marks the tenth anniversary of the revival of these beloved pencils.
The Blackwing Volume 64, released June 2021, features a halftone finish, black ferrule, grey eraser, black imprint, and firm graphite.
