Caran d'Ache's 849 Fountain Pen was designed and made after their well-known and popular 849 Ballpoint Pens. Similar to the 849 Ballpoint Pens, the 849 Fountain Pen has a hexagonal body shape and a slim look and feel. The fountain pen has an aluminum barrel with a plastic grip section; the nib material is stainless steel and the clip is steel as well. The pen cap has a satisfying click when you cap it, and it is possible to post the cap securely. The 849 fountain pen is compatible with standard international short and long cartridges, and converters.

About Caran d'Ache:
Founded in 1915 in Geneva, Caran d'Ache was originally known as Fabrique Genevoise de Crayons, but it was rebranded to Caran d'Ache, which means pencil in Russian, in 1924. Probably most famous for their pencils and colored pencils, the company has a long history in making some of the finest writing instruments.
Very nice simple design, light. Writes easily and smoothly upon uncapping. No bleeding when writing on Staples 20 lb. copy paper.
The fine nib is a tad thicker than the Platinum Preppy's 0.2 mm nib but still acceptable for persons with small writing. The grip is significantly slimmer than the grip of the Preppy, as the step-down from the barrel to the grip is material. However, I find myself holding the pen in the step interface between the barrel and the grip without any discomfort.
Pen can be capped, but does not need to be. It feels slightly back heavy if capped.
Does not come with a converter.
Very happy with my purchase.
