Handmade by our team member Bethany, we've created 8 custom watercolor blends to match the Yoseka Ceramics Ink Series. This set of watercolors was initially created for the Traveler's Travel and Sketch event hosted at Yoseka in July 2022 for in store testing as a way to encourage people to go out, travel, sketch, and paint. Due to popular demand, they are now available for online purchases.

As you can see in the photos, Bethany spent some time studying the properties of each ink color, how they appear on fountain pen friendly Tomoe River paper and how they look different on watercolor paper. After studying them, Bethany experimented with different combinations of base colors and pigments to yield the closest match to our Ceramics Inks. The end result are these pans of watercolors handmade and panned by Bethany.

You might notice when writing on fountain pen paper, some of the Yoseka Ceramics Inks have a variation of color depth. For example, Ming Yellow has an ochre shading around the sun gold yellow. Each color is a custom blend of multiple pigments, blended with watercolor medium, hand mulled and mixed for a near perfect match to the fountain pen ink and highlight their individual unique qualities.

Some of the inks like Yuan Ji Blue, Ming Kong Que Blue, and Qing Purple have a special sheen that pools around the base ink color. In the watercolors, this quality is reproduced in the form of a secondary color mixed with shimmer which separates from the base as it dries. The "sheen" shows in different intensities depending on the amount of water used, and we encourage you to experiment with the paint to discover all the possibilities these paints can offer.

These highly saturated paints are filled into plastic watercolor half pans that can snap into watercolor travel cases. Or you can check out May's blog post to see how she made a DIY watercolor carrying case.

Yoseka Special Projects

At the beginning of 2022, we set our goal for the year to be the creation of special projects with each of our team members that we could share with our customers. Over the next few months, we announced the release of these items. From Jane’s Yoseka Museum Postcard/Pencil Board to Ashley’s Note Writing Pad to Christine’s Fountain Pen Bookmark, every detail of each of these products was thoughtfully planned. Our main motivation for these special projects was to encourage our team to use their creativity, which we wanted to share with you all, and we are proud that we have gotten to a place where we are able to devote some of our resources during each work day to creation, design and experimentation.
