Pilot Namiki Emperor Chinkin Fountain Pen - Peony.

In Japan, the peony signifies bravery, honor, and good fortune. Namiki Emperor Chinkin Peony, created by Yasuji Sumi of the Kokkokai maki-e artisan group, features beautiful peonies in various states of bloom, from bud to blossom. Multiple Chinkin layers and a combination of fine dots and lines create astonishing depth and texture.

Namiki Emperor Chinkin Peony matches the size of the fountain pens in Namiki's highest-ranking collection, the Emperor Collection; it similarly comes with a jumbo size No.50 18k gold nib. This pen is filled via eyedropper with a shut-off valve and features a high ink capacity. The cap does not have a clip, making it easier to appreciate the full design.

The Chinkin Collection is made up of fountain pens which use “Chinkin (Gold Inlay)”, one of lacquer ware techniques that Japan boasts to the world on a par with Maki-e. Motifs are carved into the lacquered surface with special chisels, and after inlaying lacquer in the grooves, placing gold leaves and gold powder gives the pattern expression. The delicate and fine depiction and three-dimensional aspect overflowing with a strong power of expression are the special characteristics of this collection. Since Chinkin is a carving technique, there is no room for mistakes. Every single carve is a true challenge in the sense of the word.
