Pilot Capless/Vanishing Point. In 1963, Pilot released the first ever retractable fountain pen. After clicking the push button, the nib slides forward and pushes the lid down. By clicking the push button again, the nib retracts and the lid springs up, shutting the gap air-tight to prevent the ink from drying out. The nib is slim to fit inside the pen, and it folds down to grab the feed tightly to handle the constant movements. The very first version of Capless was actually a much more complicated mechanism to twist and expose the nib — and it was a result of 6 years research. It’s also worth noting that after the war in Japan, the businesses were booming, and many brands were willing to invest in product developments. Many brands we mentioned before such as Midori (Dimond Memo), Radar (SEED eraser) and Sailor (first ballpoint, first ink cartridge and first 21K gold nib) all had some notable products around this time. Pilot, too, was busy. Aside from Capless, Elite and Custom Series were introduced, and the first 0.5mm ballpoint with stainless steel tip was introduced by Pilot as well. For the past 50 years, there has been 11 different generations of Capless.

Arrived in excellent packaging and a lovely holiday card! This pen wrote perfectly smooth out of the box. Couldn't be happier with my purchase and delivery!
I got this vanishing point in Broad, and it changed my life. I have ascended to a higher plane of existence because of how smooth and perfect the nib is. I have been smiled upon by the stationery gods and have experienced something every fountain pen user dreams of; the perfect pen.
As I put this pen to paper, a tingle runs down my spine, and I am overcome with the pure pleasure of writing with this pen.
I will recommend this pen to everyone I come into contact with until the day I die. I wish for the rest of the stationery world feels what I have felt, and hopefully they to can achieve the higher state of existence that this pen transports you to.
The game has been changed, and I cannot go back to what I used to call "smooth". The bar has been set beyond my wildest dreams and expectations. I have seen the light, felt the perfect smoothness, and accepted the vanishing point into my heart.
Love this pen. Gorgeous to look at, classy, robust, weighty. The nib is dreamy, the click convenience priceless. My only complaint is the cartridge converter holds so little ink and seems impossible to fully fill.
