Pentel Kerry mechanical pencil. Kerry was first introduced in 1971 and named ‘万年CIL’ (Kerry). The term ‘万年’ implies fountain pen, and that’s what Pentel had in mind. Around the same period, Pilot had come up with many pocket-sized fountain pens such as Vanishing Point and the Elite series. And just like the Elite series, Kerry features small body with a long cap. When the pencil is capped, the cap extends the small body to regular size, and the tip of the cap becomes the push button for the mechanical pencil. The body is thicker than a normal pencil, especially the center of the body. Overall it is well-balanced with a classic look.
While the black body is timeless and classic, the fun colored versions of Pentel's Kerry mechanical pencil come in different metallic colored bodies with the pencil cap that are a slightly different shade than the pencil barrel. The caps have metallic finishes while the barrels are ever so slightly darker and subtly pearlescent, lending a balanced finish to the mechanical pencil.

Well, I've been a fan of the Pentel 5/Kerry line & have used them probably longer than Neil & Daisy have been alive! (Now you know I'm an old-timer). I ordered two recently from Yoseka, and I was overwhelmingly pleased with both the product (which I expected) and the beautiful packaging (which I did NOT expect...my first order).
These pencils are incredibly satisfying to use. They've got sufficient heft to feel substantial, but not overly heavy. The absolute pinnacle of enjoyment is the click and clack of removing the cap and placing it back. The mechanism is smooth and wonderful. It's pleasing to write with. And the design is absolutely a marvel of engineering beauty.
Now that I have all the colors (and the premium 5 specialty colors), I don't know what I'm going to do! I guess I'll just keep writing...
