About Kita-Boshi Pencil Co:
Kita-Boshi Pencil Co started as a lumber company in Japan in 1909. In 1944, they started making their first pencil. The company's mission is to follow the "pencil principle". The pencil principle was inspired by how a pencil sacrifices its own body to let everyone write -- and to do so, the core/lead is required to be centered precisely. While fewer people are using pencils these days, Kita-Boshi continues their mission to re-innovate the pencil industry with new products. They came out with their "Pencil for Grownups" in 2012 and earlier in 2018 they came out with "Beginning Pencil"
There are a few subtle details to this pencil that I really love: the capped end has the softness grade written on it, the half painted barrel is just aesthetically pleasing, and the clear caps are slightly notched inside for a perfect fit onto the tip. I also think they got the general thickness of both the body and the lead right, not too big, not too small. Also, 10B is no exaggeration, it really is very soft and makes rich, dark marks on the page.
My son and I love these pencils! He is learning how to write and loves how he doesn't have to push hard with this pencil and it doesn't make his hand tired. I love it for brush lettering / calligraphy style writing. Thank you for selling these pencils! We will definitely be buying more once we are done with our current set :)
