The Pilot Kakuno Family Series is an adorable addition to the popular entry-level fountain pen brand. Each style in the Pilot Kakuno Family Series features a tinted demonstrator-style (transparent barrel/cap) body, and a different smiling face carved on the nib. Mama Red would make a great Mother's Day gift!

The Kakuno Fountain Pen is suitable for beginners, and even children can write comfortably with it. It features a smiling face on the nib, so that the smiling face is always facing you when you're holding the pen correctly. The pen body is hexagonal so that if you set it down, it won't roll away.

The name "Kakuno" is based on and pronounced the same as the words 書くの meaning "writing" and 6角の meaning "six-angles" corresponding to the pen's hexagonal shape.

Now THAT'S a fine mama!

I absolutely love the Kakuno nibs to begin with. The feel and sizing of a high end Japanese fountain pen nib, but at a fraction of the cost! Having the colorful clear demonstrator style with coloring is a boon, and the price is really hard to beat especially since not many pens have cute faces on the nib either, so...
Granted the holes in the cap and body allow some pocket dusties to get into the barrel, for a $15 fountain pen designed to be child friendly this is easily overlooked. I've sealed the body holes on a couple of my work Kakunos with a low temp hot glue gun then smoothed out the excess, but I don't recommend it for the cap since there's no point unless you want to stress the sealing mechanism by removing it's 'wiggle room'.
The sealing mechanism is a separate piece unaffected by the breather holes, so I don't experience any noticable dry out under normal use, but still wouldn't recommend leaving ANY pen unused for too long regardless.
Packing was perfect and well protected, plus the stickers and handwritten note they include are super cute!!
