Trip to Taiwan
Last week, I took a trip to Taiwan and spent time traveling in Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung and Zhongli. I traveled with friends, did some sightseeing, ate a lot of delicious food, spent time with my relatives and visited Neil’s family at the original Yoseka Stationery in Zhongli. Although I have been to Taiwan many times, this was a trip full of many firsts for me! One of the highlights of this trip was looking through old photos and photo albums that my aunt brought down one night from storage. My Mom and I stayed up late going through old photographs from when she was just a teenager to when she was dating my dad and some of my baby photos. It was so cool looking back at these old photos of my mom that I had never seen before—seeing how she dressed and her confident poses in the pictures!
Throughout the week, I also got to visit a few small marketplaces and shops all over Taiwan, and collect a few memories to add into my TN. One of my favorite places that I visited was Zhongli’s Matsu New Village, which was originally housing built for retired veterans and their families. The original houses of the village were charming single story houses with low ceilings, red brick, bright red doors and turquoise window panes. Today, the village has been converted to a museum and marketplace, but the structures and buildings have been preserved and many local artists are allowed to use the space to showcase their crafts. I was super excited to find stamps throughout shops in the village that were out for visitors to use in their notebooks, and was happy to collect these and other memories in my TN :) Can’t wait for my next trip! -Daisy
