Tombow Mono Graph Shaker Mechanical Pencil has two lead advancement options: shaker mode or regular click to advance mode. To advance the lead, you can either shake the pencil to shake the weighted gear within the pencil, which in effect, "clicks" the lead out, or you can push the clip downward to manually click the lead out. The concern with shaker mechanical pencils can sometimes be that the lead is shaken in a bag, causing the lead to be advanced mistakenly and then broken off repeatedly in a pen case or when you're on the go. However, this mechanical pencil's lock mechanism prevents this from happening. Near the clip, instructions are printed to turn the lead lock mechanism "on" and "off." To turn on the lead lock, preventing all lead advancement, push upwards on the clip, and to turn off the lead lock, push back downward on the clip. You will hear the lock click into and out of place when you are locking and unlocking the pencil. Another great detail on this mechanical pencil is its eraser. To use the eraser, twist clockwise on the black grip section at the back end of the pencil. The eraser that comes with this mechanical pencil is a standard mechanical pencil eraser but it is 2.5 cm long so you'll be able to erase generously. The grip section of the Tombow Mono Graph Shaker is transparent, allowing you to see through to the shaker mechanism so you are able to see how lead advancement works in a shaker pencil.
